Babies can be expensive. However, here are some great resources to help you score and get free baby stuff!
Score Free baby Stuff!
Babies can be expensive. Between diapers, wipes and all of the other stuff that comes along with them, it can be a little intimidating for those of us on a budget. Luckily there are ways to save money on baby stuff!
My favorite way to save though, is by getting free baby stuff! There are a surprising number of ways for you to do just that!
Check out this list to help you score free baby stuff for a newborn:
Check out local Government programs –
If you are a low income household, WIC is a great way to save big on baby formula and food! Many WIC recipients get vouchers for free formula for their babies, which often last much of the month. (If you do not formula feed, they offer milk and other foods for mom.)
Join Diaper Clubs – Diaper companies such as Huggies and Pampers offer rewards programs, where you can earn rewards points in various ways (buying their products, watching videos, etc), these points can then be used to get free stuff! Plus, you often get gifts just for signing up.
Requesting free samples of diapers, and signing up for diaper company mailing lists are other ways that you can get free diapers.
Register with Baby Formula Companies – If you plan to formula feed, make sure you sign up with baby formula companies. Once you sign up with these companies they will not only send you free full sized samples, but they also often send checks to offset the cost of a can of formula (often in the $5 to $10 range).
Join Baby Registries at Big Retailers – Be sure to register for your baby gifts at multiple retailers. As an incentive to do so, many of these retailers often offer freebies. In recent months, both Amazon and Target have offered welcome packages. The one that Amazon offered was valued at over $30 and included diapers, wipes, formula, bottles and more!
Email baby companies – If you are expecting, you can email other baby companies such as Johnson’s, Graco, etc and request samples and coupons. You will be surprised at how much stuff will begin to fill up your mailbox.
Check with Your Health Insurance Company – Do you plan to breastfeed? You will likely need a breast pump. Before you go out and spend hundreds of dollars on one, be sure to get in touch with your health insurance company because many of them will send one out to you for free.
The process to obtain a free breast pump varies, so reach out to your insurance company or check in with Medela or Ameda.
Scour Craigslist, Freecycle and Facebook For Sale Groups –
Be sure to scour the pages of Craigslist, Freecycle and the different Facebook For Sale Groups. You will often find people giving baby gear away. Just be sure to check the product reviews in the event of recalls, etc. Also, it is wise to go with a new rather than used car seat as they do expire.
Have a Baby Shower or Diaper Shower!
Who says you can’t have a shower for more than one baby? I had a baby shower (or sprinkle) for most of my kids. Make it a diaper shower where people bring diapers if you’re not cloth diapering or a wipe shower. Be creative! Many times it can be a grandparent that throws it or a an aunt or cousin. Don’t be scared to ask relatives to help! Babies are a joyful occasion and they should all be celebrated! A baby shower is the perfect time to do it.
Most thrift stores won’t take baby gear anymore so chances are if you see any it will be at garage sales. Head towards the end and ask for a big discount or freebie. Many times people are ready to close shop and want to just get rid of everything so if you know there’s a garage sale going on, head over towards the end..you might snag some great stuff.
Finally, One I can help with, GIVEAWAYS! Make sure and check out all the giveaways going on here and on other pages. Bloggers like me team up with fantastic baby companies all the time to bring wonderful readers like you giveaways. I also have a Monday giveaway linky up that always has some great giveaways up linked up from Bloggers all over. Many times not a lot of people enter them, other times people don’t take advantage of the daily entries which add up. Most important there are always Amazon, Target and Walmart giveaways going on, collect those gift cards to buy your little bundle of joy some great stuff!
